Cochrane is a town in Alberta located 18 km west of Calgary along Highway 1A between Calgary and the Rocky Mountains. The population of Cochrane in 2021 was over 32,000 people, the second largest town in Alberta.
Cochrane was established in 1881 as the Cochrane Ranche, after Matthew Henry Cochrane - a local rancher. It became a village in 1903 and incorporated as a town in 1971.
